Strain descriptionNC/Jic はネズミ・マラリア原虫感染時の原虫増殖と感染に伴う合併症 (脳マラリア) に強感受性系統である。一方、　１２９X1/SvJは共に抵抗性系統である。両系統間の交配群を用いた連鎖解析から　Chr.9 (D9Mit96~D9Mit279)に原虫増殖性、Chr.1 (D9Mit18~D9Mit14)に脳マラリア感受性を規定する遺伝子が存在することが判明した。そこで、感受性の　NC 系統に抵抗性の　129X1由来の２つの染色体領域を導入した。
Colony maintenance兄妹交配雌雄ともほぼ正常な妊性を有する。
