Strain developmentDeveloped by Drs. Masayuki Uehara and Hiroshi Hamada at Oasaka University in 2007.
Strain descriptionCYP26A1 and CYP26C1 are retinoic acid-degrading enzymes and thought to play an important role in central nervous system (CNS) development. Homozygous mutant mice in both Cyb26a1 and Cyb26c1 are embryonic lethal, and show anterior-posterior patterning defects in the CNS and impaired production of migratory cranial neural crest cells in the forebrain and midbrain.
Colony maintenanceBackcross to C57BL/6 (Heterozygote x C57BL/6JJcl)Homozygous mutant mice die at embryonic day 11.
References
CYP26A1 and CYP26C1 cooperatively regulate anterior-posterior patterning of the developing brain and the production of migratory cranial neural crest cells in the mouse.
