SpeciesMus musculus
Strain nameSTOCK Izumo1<tm1Osb>
Former Common nameIzumo KO
H-2 Haplotype
ES Cell lineD3 [129S2/SvPas]
Background strain
Appearance
Strain developmentDeveloped by Drs. Naokazu Inoue and Masaru Okabe at Osaka University in 2003. 129, C57BL/6 and DBA/2 mixed background.
Strain descriptionIzumo1 is a immunoglobulin super family protein that is required for sperm to fuse with eggs. Homozygous mutant mice are viable but males are sterile. The Izumo-deficient sperm can bind to an egg, and even burrow through the zona pellucida, but are incapable of fusing with egg.
Colony maintenanceSibling Mating (Hemizygote x Wild-type, Hemizygote) Homozygous mutant males are sterile.
