Appearance
Strain developmentDeveloped by Fumihiko Horio, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University in 2003.
Strain descriptionThis strain carries diabetes-related loci from Chr 18 of A/J backcrossed to SM/J. This strain is thought to carry a causative gene of diabetes in the integration region originating from A/J on chromosome 18. This strain exhibits a clear diabetes phenotype, compared with a control strain. This SM.A-t2dm3sa congenic strain was produced by 7 backcrossing of the region between D18Mit20 to D18Mit209 of A/J onto the SM/J.
