Strain descriptionATF2 (CRE-BP1) is a transcription factor of the ATF/CREB family. This protein has a zinc finger structure as a transactivation domain located at the amino terminus and a leucin zipper motif, and phosphorylated by the stress-activated protein kinase such as the Jun amino-terminal kinase and p38. ATF2 deficient mice die shortly after birth and display symptoms of severe respiratory distress with lungs filled with meconium. This strain is useful as an animal model for meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS).
Colony maintenanceBackcross to C57BL/6 (Heterozygote x C57BL/6JJcl)
References
Mouse ATF-2 null mutants display features of a severe type of meconium aspiration syndrome.
