TypeSpontaneous Mutation
SpeciesMus musculus
Strain nameC;B6-a/a-Tyrp1<b>-Kit<W-sh>/Rbrc
Former Common nameW Sash Brown
H-2 Haplotype
ES Cell line
Background strain
Appearancewhite coat with black eyes [a/a b/b C/C sh/sh]
Strain developmentC57BL/6-Kit<W-sh> mice were deposited by Dr. Yukihiko Kitamuta, Osaka University to the RIKEN BRC. The mice were backcrossed to BALB/c for several generation, then maintained by sister-brother mating as homozygous state.
Strain descriptionThe Kit<W-sh> mutation arose spontaneously in the (C3H/HeN x 101/H)F1 at the MRC (Lyon et al., 1982). Homozygous mice are white coat with black eyes. Heterozygotes are black with a white sash. This strain is useful for study of melanogenesis and neural crest migration.
Colony maintenanceSibling mating (Homozygote x Homozygote)Homozygous mutant mice are viable and fertile.
