Strain developmentCXSリコンビナント近交系の一つであるCXSN/Aで発見された。その後、CXSリコンビナント近交系のprogenitor系統であるBALB/cHeAと一度交配した後、兄妹交配による近交化が行われた。F20代を経た後、RLCと名づけられた。埼玉県立ガンセンターでF42を経た後、BRCへ導入された（2003年）。
Strain description埼玉県がんセンター研究所で松島らにより発見、記載された自然発生カタラクトで、生後35日ころからレンズ後縫合のレンズ線維の膨化、変性、後極カプセルの破綻がおこり、レンズ核が硝子体あるいは前眼房中に逸脱する。常染色体単一劣性遺伝子によるもので、責任遺伝子は第14染色体にマップされた。ポジショナルクローニングによりDock5遺伝子の27bp欠損によることが示された。この変異はDOCK5タンパクの不安定性をもたらし、下流のRAC1のGTP化が不全となる。免疫染色ではDOCK5は主に前面上皮細胞細胞質内に発現しており、変異マウスでは減少していた。遺伝子同定に伴い、変異アレル名称はrlcからDock5<rlc>に改訂された。
