Strain development | This B6 congenic strain was created by Dr. Sudo T to obtainp38alpha-deficient mice with standard and stable genetic background. The mice have been successively backcrossed to C57BL/6JJcl strain for 14 generations (N14) at the animal facility of RIKEN Tsukuba Institute. |
Strain description | Activity of the p38alpha MAP kinase is stimulated by various stresses and hematopoietic growth factors. This strain was created to investigate the role of p38alpha in mouse development and physiology (Tamura et al. 200). Some p38alpha (-/-) embryos die between embryonic days 11.5 and 12.5, those that develop past this stage have normal morphology but are anemic owing to failed definitive erythropoiesis, caused by diminished erythropoietin (Epo) gene expression. |
Colony maintenance | The mice have been successively backcrossed to C57BL/6JJcl strain for 14 generations (N14). |
