Strain development | Developed by Dr. Koji Nishifuji, Keio University School of Medicine in 2006. This transgene contains the human keratin 5 promoter, a red fluorescent protein cDNA (DsRed2) that was fused to the N-terminal of human K14 gene in the basal lamina of stratified squamous epithelium. |
Strain description | Keratin 14 is a intermediate filament mainly expressed in the basal cell of a stratified squamous epithelium. It is a component of the cytoskelton and combines with the intracellularly territory of the desmosome which is a cytoadherence machinery. This transgenic mouse shows the expression of a red fluorescent protein cDNA (DsRed2) that was fused to the N-terminal of human K14 gene under control of the human kratin 5 promoter in the basal lamina of stratified squamous epithelium. This mouse is useful for the study of the function of the cell adehision of the desmosome and the mechanism of the onset of autoimmune bullous disease. |
