TypeTargeted MutationCartagena
SpeciesMus musculus
Strain nameB6.129S4-Visfatin<tm1Yam>
Former Common name
H-2 Haplotype
ES Cell lineRF8 [129S4/SvJae]
Background strainC57BL/6JJcl
Appearanceblack [a/a B/B C/C]
Strain developmentDeveloped by Dr. Shinya Yamanaka at Nara Institute of Science and Technology in 2001. The mutant mice were backcross to C57BL/6J.
Strain descriptionVisfatin is produced by the visceral fat and whose expression level in plasma increases during the development of obesity. Visfatin exterted insulin-mimetic effects in cultured cells and lowered plasma glucose levels in mice. Homozygous mutant mice are embryonic lethal. Heterozygous mice show increased plasma glucose levels but normal insulin evels.
Colony maintenanceBackcross to C57BL/6 (Heterozygote x C57BL/6JJcl)
